Indonesia to Add 57GW of Power Generation by 2021: Ministry

Indonesia will develop about 57 gigawatts, or 57,000 megawatts, of additional power generation capacity by 2021, Bloomberg reported the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry as saying in a presentation in Jakarta today.

  • State-owned utility Perusahaan Listrik Negara will develop 53% of new capacity, 47% will be developed by private investors: Ministry
  • Indonesia has total installed generating capacity of 44,661 MW as of June 2013: Ministry
  • Coal and gas are given priority to reduce dependence on oil in electricity generation: Ministry
  • Coal-fired power-plants will account for 62% of total capacity in 2021, natural gas 18.8%, geothermal 11% and rest will be other sources including hydro and oil: Statement
