Xstrata and Japanese power utility Tohoku have settled April-start thermal coal benchmark pricing at $95/t FOB, $20 less than last April’s settlement of $115/t FOB. Since negotiations began earlier this year, spot pricing for Newcastle spec coal has dipped to current levels around $87-$88/t.
